Cellular Physiology and Metabolism

Cellular physiology underpins the entire spectrum of biological function, from energy production to signal transduction. This session explores cellular components and their dynamic processes, including membrane transport, ATP generation, pH regulation, and metabolic flux. Participants will study how cells respond to internal and external stimuli, maintain ionic gradients, and manage waste and nutrient exchange. The central role of mitochondria, lysosomes, and endoplasmic reticulum in maintaining cellular homeostasis will be discussed. Cellular dysfunction in conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and neurodegeneration will be highlighted, with a focus on therapeutic targeting of metabolic pathways.
